Now or never, blogs are almost in everybody’s life (Either they contribute or read) and everyone started sharing contents through a medium called Blog. Its derived from the two words Web log. Yes we can log things to the web.  Once decided to blog, the next step is to select the platform to which we can post our contents or write articles. Wordpress.org is the one of the famous blogging platform which holds 1 in every 6 blogs runs this. Yes wordpress.org dominates the entire blogging platform.  A 4 MB software that can be downloaded and extracted to the Web Home folder and execute it using a browser and follow the on screen instructions.
A Simple MySQL database is needed.
Pros:
It can be hosted even in the intranet.
There are large number of plugins and themes for any kinda domain or blogs
Supports responsive design, web 2.0 standard and almost semantic
Cons:
You need to update the software at regular intervals (Manually) as to get rid of the bugs,  trojans, etc.
A hosting space is needed to put all the contents in the web (Which may be expensive for a new user).

Its best for Professional Bloggers and content Designers and others those who have already have hosting space.

Wordpress.com is another tool from Wordpress. You can get a domain something like this http://tspradeepkumar.wordpress.com.  Wordpress.com has almost the same advantage as that of wordpress.org
A user who is willing to create a blog have to register with a username/password with wordpress.com and he can start writing the posts.
Pros:
Same as wordpress.org except that it cannot be hosted in intranet.
Cons:
Only Limited space will be provided, beyond particular space, one has to purchase additional space.

This is one of the fantastic tool from Google and this blogging platform is for beginners and professionals.  Blogger.com blogs can be created by using the existing Google username and password. Also it can link to all google tools automatically with a singleclick. One can manage very easily with a good interface.  Google is working on the dynamic templates to improvize the blogging system. Dynamic templates are least customizable and faster in loading the contents
Pros:
With existing google username/password, one can create a blogging platform
Authors can be invited to post contents
Cons:
Handling the plugins and themes is a little bit tricky and one cannot able to handle the codes in the plugin

Now Tumblr is being acquired by Yahoo Inc. for almost $1.1bn.

Can share any content easily with a single click from any third party softwares like firefox, chrome or other software.

Cons:
Its getting popular now because now its yahoo’s product. We need to wait and watch.

Blog.com is not so popular in blogging platform and its mainly for beginners.

Its very easy as simple as an email. there are large number of free themes that gives the good look and feel
